June 18th, 2008

Dates: June 18 and 25
1:30-4:30pm

In this hands-on workshop we'll cover the basics and push beyond the typical Media Relations 101 skills to problem solve your biggest challenges in pitching and placing your story. We'll look at how to build lasting relationships with journalists, how to best package your materials and pitch, and how to refine your pitches to make the most of the changing political climate. Come prepared to share a recent press release or pitch letter.

Instructors: Isobel White and Laura Weide are co-founders of Spark Action, a creative consulting firm that specializes in shaping public discourse in support of progressive agendas. They have a collective three decades of experience in media relations, strategic marketing and advocacy. And they are pitching queens, having facilitated hundreds of high visibility print, electronic, radio and broadcast news stories in prominent national outlets including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Time Magazine, USA Today, CNN, NPR and dozens of others. Spark Actions' recent clients include the Coalition of Essential Schools, The Agape Foundation, and Lenders for Community Development. Other recent issue areas included nursing home reform and grassroots responses to free trade.
