Media Alliance's Spot.us Tips

Spot.us is an exciting initiative in community-funded journalism that directly connects journalists with citizens who want to see stories told.  MA has pitched a few tips for stories we'd like to see the light of day; if you'd like to write one of them or pledge conditional support pending a willing author and full financial support - that's a great way to support alternative journalism in these troubled times. Check out our "tips" and see if one or more of them lights your fire.

Investigating the East Bay ICE Raids - Employers like the Woodfin Suites in Emeryville have turned labor disputes into immigration raids. Is this becoming a new trend?

KAXT vs. KTVU - What's the future of the new media properties freed up by the digital transition. New services aimed at under-served communities or boosters for the existing big guys? What is happening and why?

Dark Fiber and the Search For Light - What lies under the streets of cities - in public hands - although the public doesn't always know about it? Could it be enough wires to provide free, fast hi-speed Internet connections for everyone in some of America's biggest cities?

What Happens When A City Hits It Big? - In November 2008, Measure T sent millions of dollars from Chevron to the City of Richmond - increasing Chevron's contribution to the poor East Bay city where it processes oil by 440 times. What's happening with all these new funds? Is it trickling down to a community that needs a lot of things?
