Affordable Broadband Week of Action – February 14th-20th
Communities Across the Country Advocate for Digital Inclusion
and an Open Internet
San Francisco-A broad array of community groups across the
country – under the leadership of the Media Action Grassroots Network
(www.mediagrassroots.org) will visit members of the Senate and Congress and
sponsor forums and teach-ins for the public on universal, affordable and
unfettered broadband access for all.
As net neutrality regulation remains a hot potato in Washington
DC, and a National Broadband Plan is under development by the Federal
Communications Commission, community groups from Philadelphia to Albuquerque,
Appalachia to SOMA, say these political debates impact the ways people
communicate – personally, locally, nationally and globally.
In San Francisco on February 20th, United Playaz at 1038
Howard Street in San Francisco will host “What is Your Internet Story”, a
teach-in that will include a story station to generate posters, audio, video
and theater that captures the personal experiences of participants and a video
booth that will collect first-hand testimonies for submission to the National
Broadband Plan Task Force in Washington.
The event will run from 1:00pm – 3:00pm and will include a
discussion of the relationship between media production and media access and
the role of art in making social and policy change. Admission is free.
