Low-Power Radio: The Implementation Shuffle


"Pirate" radio is now the law of the land, thanks to the Local Community Radio Act. But the devil is in the details and how the law is implemented by the FCC will make all the difference. 

In  Round 1, community media advocates scored a great victory: convincing the FCC to prioritize low power applications over translator applications from existing broadcasters in markets where low-power was likely to be squeezed out.

Davis-based Common Frequency, which supports community radio stations, both low-power and full power,  played a key role in changing the calculus in Washington.
