Former poet laureates, Robert Hass has received the National Book Critics Circle Award, the National Book Award and a Pulitzer Prize. His new book of essays ranges from meditations on how we see and treat the earth, the relationship between literature and religion and explorations of writers like the Koream poet Ko Un, Wallace Stevens, Anton Chekhov and Cormac McCarthy.
