Armed with a camera, Lee Hirsch put faces, names and stories behind the 13 million kids who are reportedly bullied each year. His documentary BULLY received international acclaim and has influenced national discussion and debate on the issue of bullying. Confronting bullying’s most tragic outcome, the film follows five kids and their families as they are faced with this painful issue. It also gives an intimate glimpse into schools, offering insight into the often-cruel world of children, as teachers, administrators and parents struggle to find answers. Lee will share the journey of BULLY and his Bully Project, a social action campaign to end bullying and the San Mateo County efforts involved.
Alex Libby is one of the kids featured in the documentary BULLY. His daily struggles at school are heart wrenching as bullies target him with punches, choke holds, name calling and stealing simply because of his differences. Alex has Asperger's Syndrome, which often affects social skills and can create difficulties in making friends. Like many kids who are bullied, Alex did not share his pain with his family. The film shows how this family chose to heal. Today, Alex is advocating for other kids, especially those with special needs and is enjoying his photo ops with super models and actresses when called for red carpet events.
