Thanks to the generous support of BALNC donors as well as the Mitchell Kapor Foundation, the Y&H Soda Foundation and The California Endowment, we are able to offer full and partial scholarships to training participants.
The BALNC Leadership training is for professionals working in the nonprofit, government or socially responsible business sectors that seek to confront the social and economic equity challenges of our society. It is for individuals that strive to expand opportunities for individuals and communities that are marginalized based upon their race, class, gender, sexual identity or citizenship status.
The training is well-suited for emerging to senior-level professionals who must often lead beyond their authority in order to accomplish critical objectives. The training does not presume a particular professional background or number of years in your field, only a willingness to deeply explore and enhance your leadership around the big challenges that matter.
At its core, leadership is about change. It involves: Change in how you do your work and how your organization gets the work done, Change in the perceptions, views and actions of those around you, and most importantly, change in yourself.
The Leadership Unbounded training helps you to develop awareness and the strategic skills to lead change. It helps equip with you tools to confront the big challenges in your organizations and communities while helping you surface the various barriers to change that will emerge along the way.
We are all capable of leading effective change from wherever we are, regardless of our position or the amount of authority we are granted. In fact, the hallmark of leadership is that it invariably requires us to exceed the confines of a particular position, or authority in order to bring about a more positive outcome.
The Leadership Unbounded training builds on the ideas of Ronald Heifeitz at the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard who’s work has helped us understand that work teams, organizations and even communities are systems that are resistant to change. In the two days you will spend with us, our training will provide an actionable framework for undertaking leadership combined with skill-building exercises focused on strategic and tactical realities of taking on the challenging task of change.
This training also incorporates content and exercises that help surface the role that marginalized identities plays in leadership development and how to address that marginalization.
