If online learning keeps you up at night (literally and/or figuratively), the Berkeley Center for New Media and the CITRIS Data and Democracy Initiative welcome you to join us for two days of lively discussion and debate around Critical Issues in Online Education. Whether you are a MOOC maniac or a pen-and-paper traditionalist, it is undeniable that information and communication technologies are rapidly transforming higher education. We are faced with urgent questions about the future of higher education and the opportunities, conditions, and tensions that emerge from on-campus and online settings. This highly anticipated conference will bring together interdisciplinary scholars, educational media developers, students, and employers to collaboratively explore, discuss, and advance shifting notions of equity, tools, metrics, communities of practice, and learning from a perspective of innovation and of concern for the future of higher education. Specifically, speakers will address issues such as theories of learning, research opportunities, the global reach of online education, and measuring learning online. The objective of the conference is to identify key factors in successfully implementing innovative online and on-campus learning platforms.
