Coming off the heels of its festival premeire as an official selection in the 2013 San Francisco Black Film Festival, Impresa! will be screened at the California Historical Society with filmmaker Sephora Woldu. Screenings at 6:30 and 7:30 PM Impresa! is a narrative fiction about a person who wants to take over a nontraditional business and the reactions she gets from her family/ community.She is a first generation Eritrean American living in San Francisco, and the perils of her nontraditional business venture worry the family. Our protagonist goes on a day trip in the Bay Area visiting the most creative Eritrean and Ethiopian owned businesses to prove that innovation has a place in the community. The short film is a light, uplifting look into the fictitious story of one girl abandoning cultural fiscal fears and chasing entrepreneurship. As a silent film, Impresa! is a story told in English and Tigrinya subtitles. Tigrinya is the official language of Eritrea, and though commonly spoken and understood, the East African nation is a proud country of many people and languages. Impresa! is proud to tell this story in both English and Tigrinya to accurately represent the Diasporic experience.
