Press Briefing on E-Waste Options and the DTV Transition
Monday, August 31st 2009  1:30 PM
San Francisco, CA

The digital television transition, completed successfully by the United States on June 12, 2009, is generating a large flow of electronic waste. Up to 80% of electronic waste, like old televisions, is exported to developing countries or US prisons where toxic components are openly burned, soaked in acid baths, or dumped for scrap recovery. For these important reasons, this meeting is being held to provide consumers with information to dispose of used electronics in a more environmental fashion. Topics including the repercussions of the DTV transition and ways any individual can help the environment will be discussed.
