The Women's Magazine is a weekly hour-long radio show produced by a diverse collective for community radio station KPFA. It focuses on coverage of local women's struggles and connecting them to global women's rights issues. After a 3-month sabbatical for KPFA to air a look at the Obama Administrations' first 100 days, the scheduled return to the air was abruptly canceled less than 10 minutes to airtime with guests waiting in studio. See update ... The show remains off the air with no scheduled date of return. This is shabby treatment at best, and a big loss to local women's media. Come insist on women's programming, produced by for and about women and demand fairness and evenhandedness in programming at this left institution, the nation's first community radio station.

On December 3, 1984, 27 tons of lethal gas leaked from the Union Carbide pesticide factory in Bhopal, India. 8,000 people were killed and thousands more have been affected by ongoing water contamination. The survivors tour continues to raise awareness of the event and advocate for Union Carbide's parent company Dow Chemical to take responsibility for the lasting impact of the leak.

During the recent conflict in Gaza, Dr. Gilbert was one of few foreign physicians on the ground, in a period when foreign journalists were barred from entry. A 3-week fellowship program offering 3 weeks of reporting with travel and lodging costs and a weekly stipend. Five journalists from the Latin American and Caribbean regions will have the opportunity to develop direct sources of information, enter into direct contact with public and private institutions, and experience in situ how Washington works. Fellows will be given a desk in the WP newsroom. Applications due by June 30th.
